Even as early as the 2nd century, Lucian of Samosata had described a three-day journey to the Moon and beyond to NALS the stars. But after the Red Planet was observed clearly for the first time in the 19th century, it captured the imagination of artists, writers, and musicians. Literature In 1880, in his two-volume "Across the Zodiac," English novelist Percy Greg described an astronaut's successful journey from Earth to Mars aboard a spacecraft driven by the force of electromagnetic repulsion-called "apergia." Camille Flammarion's novels were less scientific and more sentimental. His novel "Stella," published in 1897, is a love story in which the hero dies on a mountain peak and is reincarnated on Mars.
